My Journey | Naturopathic Medicine Week 2020
Happy Naturopathic Medicine Week!
This is a week for education and celebration 🎉
Throughout the week I'm going to be sharing the 𝟔 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐜 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐞. These are the principles that, as students and graduates, NDs honour to uphold and follow. They are the basis for our education and they are responsible for the differences between an allopathic doctor and a naturopathic doctor!
Today I want to share a bit about myself and why I'm studying naturopathic medicine!
I always knew that I wanted to work in healthcare and for much of my undergrad I thought that I would be working in a lab. I love the technical aspect of lab work and I also really love research.
After watching my friend and compounding pharmacist treat patients with supplements and compounded hormones, I realized that maybe a profession in which I could do a similar job would be a good fit.
I searched online, talked to a friend in the ND program and decided to apply.
So, what drew me to this profession? Everything. The ND that treated me. The principles of naturopathic medicine. The focus on treatment of a whole person and not just the disease. The focus on prevention. EVERYTHING.
And here I am. I just finished my second year, I'm on a 5 year plan, and am looking forward to September when I can get back to classroom learning and challenging myself!
I'm happy you're here and hopefully you'll learn something from my journey!
